SIDEBAR INFORMATION

We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month @7:00 at:
1717 Washington Street,
Kansas City MO, 64108
Google MAP

MEETINGS and COVID-19:
The City of KCMO mask mandate for meetings is no longer in effect. You may still wear a mask if you like. We will also continue to Zoom the meeting to those members that don't feel comfortable at an in-person meeting or just can't attend the meeting in person. The Zoom details will be emailed to members the week before the meeting.

THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING:
March 9th Regular Meeting:

KC Woodturner and Vice President Mike Thomas has assembled three videos to be shown at the March Meeting titled "Sharpening Tips from the Pros" to demonstrate different sharpening techniques from three professional production bowl turners ( Stuart Batty, Glenn Lucas and Mike Mahoney). Mike Thomas will narrate the presentation highlighting similarities, differences, advantages and disadvantages or each. Mike's intention is for these videos to serve as background for your club's upcoming Tool Sharpening Skill Builder (on Saturday, March 21st 10:00am) that will help attendees understand what they want to learn and accomplish. The three meeting videos and Skill Builder contain material that should provide value not only for beginners but intermediate and experienced turners as well.
March 9th Woodturning Challenge:
The March Woodturning Challenge was chosen by Kurtis Cowman. He asks you to try something different: dye something, turn a bar of soap, turn something off the wall. In other words, surprise us. One of the Challenge entrants will be randomly chosen to win a nice prize, probably two Craft Supplies gift cards.

RENEWED 2026 Members: Your new 2026 KCWT Membership Cards will be located in the metal cardfile box in the Clubhouse Lobby window. Pick yours up anytime the clubhouse is open (see the Guild open shop schedule).

NEW 2026 Members: Your new KCWT Name Badges and Membership Cards will be stored on the KC Woodturners badge rack inside the front door to the right of the clubhouse main entrance door.

Current KCWT membership cards give members 10% discount on non-electrical items at Woodcraft, Schutte Lumber, Rockler, Penn State, and Klingspor. This 10% discount is an enormous member benefit. Many members use this benefit to pay for their dues many times over. Metro Hardwood used to provide a member discount but new management has withdrawn this club support.

FUTURE MEETING DEMOS:
April 13th Regular Meeting:

Watch This Space.

OPEN TURNING:
Open Turning in our lathe room is scheduled for Wednesday (except 3rd Wednesday) and Thursday evenings 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturday mornings 8:30am-noon. All eight lathes are available for use. You can always drop by and talk about a project. Coffee is free and so is the advice.

FUTURE EVENTS:

March 21st - Tool Sharpening Skill Builder 10:00am-Noon (Sat). Learn how to sharpen gouges and skews and scrapers.

April 3rd - Crossroads First Friday 3:30pm-9:00pm (Fri). Our tent space will be near 19th and Baltimore streets. Help set up our tent and sell your woodturnings. A street map and tent location will come later. Your club will be at every Crossroads First Friday on the first friday of the months April thru October.

April 18th - Bowl-A-Palooza 2 12:30am-4:00pm (Sat). Come see bowls cored ready for initial drying. Watch or sweep up shavings. Final turning will be at another time to be scheduled. Your club sells these bowls at sales events like Irish Fest.

April 25th - Lathe Room Cleaning 10:00am-Noon (Sat). Cleaning volunteers are needed. We had a great volunteer crew at the previous room cleaning, let's do it again.

June 13th - Annual Picnic at Shawnee Mission Park 10:00am-whenever (Sat). Free event. Your club supplies burgers and dogs and the fixins. Members bring a salad or dessert to share.

September 4th thru 6th - KC Irish Fest - Art in the Park (Fri, Sat, Sun) This is the biggest sales event of the year for your club. We need volunteers to help sell our woodturnings - get in Free. You can sell your own woodturnings during this event.

September 12th - Lenexa Spinach Festival 9:00am-4:00pm (Sat). This is a very fun event and is more family oriented than Irish Fest. Your club will have a tent to sell woodturnings during the festival.

December 14th - Annual Holiday Party 7:00pm-9:00pm (Mon). Free event for members and families. The club provides great sandwich meat and bread and the usual fixins. Members bring salads or desserts to share. Look at last year's party photos. We have member awards and a woodturned gift exchange (participation optional). Everybody will have a great time.
