SIDEBAR INFORMATION

We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month @7:00 at:

Kansas City MO, 64108
Google MAP

MEETINGS and COVID-19:
The City of KCMO mask mandate for meetings is no longer in effect. You may still wear a mask if you like. We will also continue to Zoom the meeting to those members that don't feel comfortable at an in-person meeting or just can't attend the meeting in person. The Zoom details will be emailed to members the week before the meeting.

THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING:
October 13th Regular Meeting:

KC Woodturner Phill Sykes will talk about and demonstrate turning green wood: From a Tree to a Bowl.
October 13th Woodturning Challenge:
Turn a birdhouse ornament. Can be hollow or solid.

RENEWED 2025 Members: Your new 2025 KCWT Membership Cards are available in the metal cardfile box in the Clubhouse Lobby window as soon as you renew. Pick yours up anytime the clubhouse is open (see the Guild open shop schedule).

NEW 2025 Members: Your new KCWT Name Badges and Membership Cards will be stored on the KC Woodturners badge rack inside the front door to the right of the clubhouse main entrance door.

Current KCWT membership cards give members 10% discount on non-electrical items at Woodcraft, Metro Hardwoods, Schutte Lumber, Rockler, Penn State, and Klingspor. This 10% discount is an enormous member benefit. Many members use this benefit to pay for their dues many times over.

FUTURE MEETING DEMOS:
Watch this space.

OPEN TURNING:
Open Turning in our lathe room is scheduled for Wednesday (except 3rd Wednesday) and Thursday evenings 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturday mornings 8:30am-noon. All eight lathes are available for use. You can always drop by and talk about a project. Coffee is free and so is the advice.

FUTURE EVENTS:

Lathe Room Cleanup - September 13th, 2025 (Saturday) 8:30am to noon:
The Open House is the next day so we need the Shop to be looking its best. We NEED volunteers. No lathe work until the Shop is clean. The cleaning should only take a couple of hours with a good cleanup crew.

Local Block Party and Clubhouse Open House - September 14th, 2025 (Sunday):
CANCELLED

Top Turning Event - September 20th, 2025 (Saturday):
We need to turn a lot of tops for the upcoming Santa's Workshop. Start at 8:30am and continue sometime in the afternoon. If you want to learn how to turn a top, we will teach you. Blanks will be provided. All you need is a 1/2" spindle gouge.

Kaw Valley Farm Tour in Lawrence, KS - October 4th and 5th (Sat, Sun):
The KC Woodturners are going to turn tops for sale at the Pendleton Farm. We hope to sell a couple hundred tops. This event is two day, so we would like top turning volunteers to volunteer for a four hour time slot for one day. More information about times and event address will come later so watch this notice.

Bowl-A-Palooza - Maybe October 19th (Sun):
We are going to twice turn bowls for sale to area realtors. This will be the coring and first turning before the rough-turned bowls go into the kiln. The bowls will be second turned at a later date. Come and watch the experts turn.

Santas Workshop - November 22nd and 23rd (Sat, Sun):
The dates of this Guild/Woodturner event are not quite set in stone. The Guild will let us know. This is a major event for both of our clubs. Over a thousand young kids will watch toy trucks being made by the Guild. The Woodturners will turn tops to be placed in the toy truck bed for hauling around. The KC Woodturners will also sell donated items at this event. Club members can sell their turnings for a small percent fee. This is a great time to sell Holiday related items. We will need volunteers to help sell items, turn tops, and talk about our club to anybody interested. There will be a volunteer signup later.

KC Woodturners Holiday Party - December 8th (Mon):
We will have a nice meal together at the clubhouse, talk about the past year, chat with old friends and maybe make some new ones. The entire household is invited. Please RSVP for this eveny so we can purchase the right amount of food. The club will furnish sandwiches, cold drinks, wine, plates, utensils and napkins. The members please bring a salad or dessert to share. There will be a woodturned gift exchange (if you bring something you will get something). There will probably be a voluntary woodturning event of some sort.
